Splash or Sizzle? Megan Thee Stallion’s New Swimwear: The Hits, The Misses, and the Hot Takes

The Hot Girl Coach is entering big-box territory! Megan Thee Stallion has officially dropped her new swimwear line in partnership with Walmart, and it’s already causing waves. Dubbed “Hot Girl Summer x Walmart,” the collection is bold, body-positive, and unapologetically Megan. The swimwear may be affordable, but the price tag isn’t a sacrifice in style! From metallic cheeky one pieces to string beach bikinis, there is something for everyone to love.

While there is something for everyone to love, it begs the question: Is there something for everyone to fit? While it hits some high notes in terms of style and accessibility, it also highlights a familiar frustration for plus size shoppers: limited size ranges in retail partnerships.

Hold on tight, Curvy Fashionistas! We’re diving deep into Hot Girl Summer x Walmart and whether the collection is worth your hard-earned dollars.

For starters, as Fashionistas, we must discuss the most important part first — style!

Megan’s swimwear line with Walmart celebrates her signature confidence and curve-friendly style. There is no doubt that this collection is trendy and colorful. Though the designs are not innovative or anything new, they still present a Megan Thee Stallion twist. Featuring some of her signature colors, orange and pink, fiery reds, neon greens, tropical prints, and flattering cuts that embrace the body, not hide it.

Most swimsuit styles were represented with four one-piece options, six two-piece options (five bikinis, one shorts), and two cover-ups. The same items are also available on Meg’s website. Priced affordably, the pieces range from about $15 to $40, making them accessible to a wide audience. There’s a clear focus on fun, functional fashion pieces designed to slay on the ‘Gram and stand up to summer adventures.

It’s also important to point out that Meg’s website does not feature the items on a model. However, Walmart’s website shows the items on various-sized models.

What Doesn’t the Swimwear Collection Include

Here’s where the excitement starts to dip. Oddly enough, the size ranges differ between Walmart and Thee Stallion’s website. In-store and online, Wally World offers sizes XS-XXL, but on Meg’s website, the range is extended to 3XL.

While a 4 and 5XL option would have been nice, it is even more concerning that the Walmart collection stops at a 2XL, lessening accessibility. Those who need a 3XL cannot go to the store to purchase; they must order and wait for their items to arrive. Yes, the option is there, but it is behind a barrier that smaller sizes don’t have to face.

For many plus-size shoppers, the message is clear: mass-market collabs still don’t always show up for bodies over a certain size, even when the star behind the line is famously, fiercely body-positive. It feels like a missed opportunity, especially given Megan’s own openness about body confidence and the diversity of her fanbase.

What Does This Mean for Plus Size Shoppers?

When a figure like Megan Thee Stallion puts her name on a fashion line, it’s more than just clothes—it’s representation. It signals who gets to feel seen, styled, and celebrated. So when her Walmart line doesn’t fully extend that inclusion in sizing, it raises important questions about who these partnerships are truly for. It reinforces a frustrating pattern: plus-size fashion is often still an afterthought, even when the aesthetic is plus-size friendly.

Let’s be real: Megan Thee Stallion is a body-positive icon. She’s not afraid to show off her body or sexuality, no matter what stage of life she is in. Her image, energy, and unapologetic presence have empowered millions, but if they can’t wear the clothes she’s selling at one of the biggest retailers in the country, what message does that send?

It is unclear why there is a difference in size ranges, and it is unclear if this is Walmart’s decision to cap the size range at 2XL. Still, imagine what it would look like if Megan demanded a size range up to 5X or 6X as non-negotiable in this retail partnerships. That could shift the entire curve (literally and figuratively) for celebrity fashion collabs moving forward.
